MEDPSU, the first regional hospital to be successful in its first-ever heart transplant case. Ready to support patients in need of organ transplants.
On February 15, 2025, at 8.30 am, the healthcare team at Songklanagarind Hospital performed the hospital’s first heart transplant, marking a major achievement for the first-ever heart transplant at a regional hospital in Thailand.
Assoc. Prof. Monthira Tantanuch, M.D., Head of the Organ Transplant Center at Songklanagarind Hospital, emphasized that “the hospital is committed to the establishment of the Organ Transplant Center in order to help the people in need of organ transplants, which is the last treatment option for many.
Normally, the patients need to receive such operations at the hospitals in Bangkok. Today’s first-ever heart transplant operation at Songklanagarind Hospital marked an important milestone in the regional hospitals accomplishments. This heart transplant saved the life of the patient with end-stage heart failure, for whom all other treatments had failed. In addition to the MEDPSU surgical team, led by Prof. Voravit Chittithavorn, M.D., the surgical team from Chulalongkorn Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society, led by Patchara Ongcharit, M.D. co-supervised in the operation.
This operation not only highlights the capability of Songklanagarind Hospital, but also reflects the dedication from the hospital staff and the kindness of organ donors for the benefit of humankind.
